Newport, Rhode Island, Elevation Guidelines Appendix

Newport was one of the first cities in the country to adopt elevation guidelines for its historic district. Located on Narragansett Bay, the city is experiencing increasing problems with coastal flooding and high water events. With the help of an intern from Roger Williams University, we are preparing illustrated guidelines for elevating and hardening properties in the Newport Historic District. This appendix details “best practices” through illustrations and photographs to assist property owners as they consider elevating and hardening dwellings and commercial buildings.
